Spartans play to win

 Sanderson varsity athletic teams are heading for spectacular seasons in both women’s and men’s fall sports.

 In a volleyball game on September 9, the Lady Spartans defeated Enloe in three sets. On September 12, the girls won against Southeast Raleigh, also 3 to 0. On September 5, Broughton beat Sanderson in a close game, with a final score of 3 to 2. The girls have a current record of 3-2 in the Cap-7 Conference.

 Women’s tennis is on a winning streak, the Spartans lead 8 matches to 1. In their September 5 match and on September 6, Sanderson defeated Southeast Raleigh 6 to 0.

 Women’s cross country placed 14 out of 33 teams at the Friday Night Lights invitational on September 8 in Kernersville. Men’s cross country placed 21 out of 31 teams at the invitational.

  Football had an impressive start to the school year, beating Apex 48 to 0 on August 31.   On September 8, Sanderson suffered a loss against Heritage, with a final score of 7 to 28.

 Men’s soccer beat Garner Magnet 9 to 1 on September 7, and lost 6 to 0 against Enloe on September 11, they also lost 2 to 0 in their game September 13 against Leesville Road. All teams are working to conquer the 2017-2018 sports seasons, so be sure to come out and support the Spartans this year!

Football: Sanderson’s football game on Friday September 15, 2017 was away at Green Hope. The spartans were victorious with a score of 21-22. Senior Alim McNiel scored the winning touchdown and the following two point conversion to win the game.

Men’s and Women’s Cross Country: At the Adidas XC Challenge on September 16, Sanderson had two runners qualify to be recognized as having elite performances. Junior Lila Peters ran 18:46.80 and Senior Jace Larsen ran 16:29.50 in the 5,000 meters. Carson Helmer, freshman, also had a notable performance, running a personal record of 16:52.10.

Women’s Tennis: On Monday September 18, Sanderson’s Varsity Tennis team defeated Wake Forest. The overall match tally was five to four with four out of the nine matches going into tie-breaking sets.

Volleyball: The Varsity Volleyball team played Cardinal Gibbons High School on September 19. The spartans lost the game in four close sets, scoring 25-13, 22-25, 25-22, 25-22.

 After a hard week of school sports, the Sanderson Spartans continue to show dedication on the field and the court.

 Although JV Volleyball lost in two sets to Millbrook on Monday, September 25, Varsity Volleyball was able to pull through a victory in three sets. Adding to their win, this Dig Pink game raised over $1,500 to support breast cancer. Along with Millbrook’s defeat was Varsity Football’s 21-7 victory against Enloe on Friday, September 22. Not only did the team show up and claim success, but the Sanderson student section ruled the stadium in their “Hawaiian” attire.

 Despite these triumphs, Men’s Varsity soccer lost to Millbrook 1-0 on Monday, September 25. Fans, make sure you head over to Broughton on Wednesday, September 27 to cheer on your Sanderson soccer team against the Caps.
