Here’s the Scoop!

As summer comes to an end, it’s not too late to grab a sweet treat from one of these local eateries.

Whether it be a first date, girl’s night, or family outing, ice cream is almost always on the agenda. It’s a classic, delicious way to bond and learn more about each other.

Luckily, Raleigh has no shortage of artisan frozen desserts. Here’s the scoop on the most dazzling ice cream parlors in the City of Oaks.

  • FRESH Local Ice Cream

Freshest Ingredients

When it comes to advertising their product, FRESH wastes no time. By including their two priorities in their name– fresh and local–, they’ve secured the attention of countless press and media outlets. Plus, they’re among the few ice cream shops that use delivery services such as DoorDash to serve their products directly to customers’ doorsteps.

“My favorite ice cream place is FRESH, and the reason why I like it is because it’s local, and all of the people there are very friendly and have great customer service,” explains Sanderson’s foods and nutrition teacher, Ms. Grayson Bennett.

With three locations in Raleigh, Downtown Cary, and Downtown Apex, FRESH Local Ice Cream is a (not-so-hidden) gem of the City of Oaks.

  • Two Roosters Ice Cream

Most Unique Flavors

When viewing Two Roosters’ menu, one “forever flavor” catches the eye– Sola Cinnamon Donut. Any tried and true Raleighite would recognize the name of Sola Coffee and Cafe, a popular local eatery renowned for its mini cinnamon donuts. This collaboration between the two local businesses reflects the very essence of what makes Raleigh, Raleigh– family and community.

The ice cream shop boasts its commitment to the community by purchasing Girl Scout cookies for the Girl Scout Mint flavor directly from local troops.

Other eccentric “forever flavors” include Blackberry Hibiscus, Roasted Strawberry and Honey, and Coffee Bourbon. The dessert shop also proudly promotes its Fall Flavor Series, which doesn’t fail to impress– an eye-popping purple Ube Chip display intrigues customers. “I always love trying new things, and trying an ice cream with such an exotic interesting exotic flavor no one can resist!” gushes junior Masha Bobryk, “The color and name are literally screaming, ‘try me!’”

  • Howling Cow

Most Educational

Made fresh on the NC State University campus, Howling Cow ice cream is both tasty, and educational. With all of the cream and milk coming directly from the cows on their 329-acre farm, the university ensures top-notch quality.

In a world growing increasingly interested in the origins of the food they eat, NC State seized the opportunity to open the Howling Cow Dairy Education Center and Creamery. Members of the public can tour the dairy farm, seeing the dairy cows, animal husbandry, and learning how a farm operates. A hotspot for field trips, the education center is opening doors for young people interested in entering the food industry.

Howling Cow ice cream can also be found in select Harris Teeters, available in fun flavors such as Wolf Tracks, Cookie Dough, and Campfire Delight.
