The Senior Soirée had fun props and other activities for the Spartans.

In lieu of the annual Senior Prom, the Junior Class Council hosted the Sanderson Senior Soirée May 1. From food to photo booths, the night proved to be a success.

The event started at 4:00 PM and lasted until 7:00 PM. Seniors were able to reserve a time slot with their group of, at most, six friends.

Senior and attendee Allena Harris recalls the soirée saying, “I really appreciate how much effort the juniors put into the every detail of the night.”

The breezeway was adorned with backdrops inspired by classic movies such as The Wizard of Oz, Star Wars, The Great Gatsby, and more.

After taking their own pictures in front of the backdrop, seniors were escorted into the photo booth where a professional photographer continued to take pictures.

Senior Halle West says, “I really enjoyed the decorations—you could tell lots of work went into it. Also, I love my photo booth pics.”

Once they collected their photo booth strips, seniors grabbed a goodie bag filled with treats and then left their mark on the school’s Spirit Rock.

Senior Lauren Miedema remarked, “I had no clue how the backdrops were going to look, and I was pleasantly surprised. I had a great time in the photo booth, and definitely wished more people had attended.”

While the Class of 2021 has had to limit their celebrations this year due to COVID-19, Sanderson faculty and staff have worked hard to make this year as normal as possible. Seniors, make sure to save the date for these upcoming events:

May 26: Senior Assembly @11:00 AM

  • Located in the school auditorium, seniors gather together to watch the slideshow, skit, and even grab a treat on the way out. Make sure to wear the “SeniorWorld” t-shirt.

June 6: Sanderson Baccalaureate Ceremony @4:00 PM

  • Located at Trinity Baptist Church, participating seniors will come to the event dressed in their gowns (no caps). The service will be non-denominational/multi-faith, and a few seniors will be speaking to the rest of the class.

June 10: Graduation Ceremony/Sandscript Senior Edition Distribution (times vary)

  • Located in the school’s stadium, seniors who signed up to attend the traditional graduation ceremony will do so on this day. Either before or after the ceremony, staff writers of the Sanderson Sandscript will be there to pass out the printed senior edition of the newspaper.
