There is an extensive and exciting list for movies to be released this year.

  The new year is finally here and it looks promising for the movie industry as many exciting productions have been announced to be released this year. 2020 put many entertainment companies on hold, so movie lovers are excited to finally get new material. 

  January- This month has already given us multiple new family-friendly movies and musicals such as Ratatouille: The Musical, which brought together many broadway stars and was streamed on TodayTix. In addition, The Spongebob Movie: Sponge On The Run is out in theaters now. Both were released on the first of January.  

  There are still many highly anticipated movies waiting to be released this month such as:

Redemption Day: Set to release on January 8, the movie follows a marine captain on a journey to get himself and his family out of danger when kidnapped by a terrorist group. This is starring Gary Dourdan, Sarinda Swan, and Andy Garcia. 

Batman: The Soul Of Dragon: Bruce Wayne must call for help on world-class trained martial artists when faced with a challenge from his past. Starring David Giuntoli, Mark Dacascos, and Kelly Hu, the release date is set for January 12. 

Caged: An African-American man found guilty of murdering his wife is imprisoned and haunted by his wife and demons while being punished by an abusive guard to his breaking point. 

February: 

Cinderella: A modern, musical version of the classic animated film is set to release on the fifth and stars the pop singer Camila Cabello, broadway stars Indiana Menzel and Billy Porter and popular Netflix series actor Nicholas Galitzine.

Flora & Ulysses: This family-friendly animated comedy developed by Disney is set to release onto the streaming service Disney+ February 19. The animated film is based off of the children’s novel by Kate DeCamillo also called Flora & Ulysses. 

Tom & Jerry: This film will mark the 81st anniversary of the two beloved animated characters on a trip of mischief and fun. The live-action/animation stars Chloë Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, and more as live action characters and the voices of William Hanna, Mel Blanc, and June Foray. The release date is February 26. 

March:

Coming 2 America: The film serves as a sequel to the original that was put out in 1988 and Eddie Murphy will return to the screen reprising his role. The comedy film is set to be out March 5 on Amazon Prime Video. 

The Many Saints of Newark: The crime-drama film is supposed to be a prequel to the HBO series The Sopranos. The movie is set in 1960’s and 1970’s Newark, New Jersey and will use audio tapes as a backdrop from the 1967 riots that resulted in tension between Italian-American and African-American communities. The movie is set to release in theaters on March 12 and is planned to be on the streaming service HBOMax for one month. 

Morbius: The new marvel film based off of the comic book hero Morbius is set to release March 19 and will star Jarad Leto as the comic book hero. 

April:

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway: The live-action/computer animated movie will follow Peter Rabbit and his friends on a quest outside of the garden. The host of the popular late night talk show, The Late Late Show with James Corden, will be the voice of Peter Rabbit. The film is set to release on April 2. 

A Quiet Place Part II: The popular horror film, A Quiet Place will be getting a sequel with the same cast from the first movie. The release date is set for April 23. 

May: 

Black Widow: The movie is based on the marvel character Black Widow and will follow the events of Captain America: Civil War, which was produced by Marvel in 2016. Scarlet Johansen will reprise her role and it is set to release May 7. 

Godzilla vs. Kong: This film will combine the two universes in which the monsters Godzilla and KingKong live, It will serve as a sequel to their last movies Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island. The release date is set to be May 21. 

June: 

Ghostbusters: Afterlife: Watch as the cast reprise their roles from the original film, Ghostbusters and act alongside Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd in the supernatural comedy set to release on June 11. 

In The Heights: The movie musical will be based off of the Broadway Musical, of the same name, and will take place in Washington Heights, New York focusing on the hardships of dreams. Produced by the original main character and lyricsts Lin Manuel Miranda, the musical will be released on June 18. 

Venom: Let There Be Change: The film will be released June 25 and will serve as a sequel to the last venom movie released back in 2018 and will feature Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom. 

July:

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: Marvel studios will also produce a movie based off of the comic book hero Shang-Chi. The hero will be forced to confront his past and will be played by Simu Liu. The film will be released July 9. 

Jungle Cruise: The Disney adventure film is based off of Walt Disney’s theme park attraction and shares the same name. The film will follow Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Jack Whitehalls’ characters on a journey to find the tree of life. The movie will be released July 30. 

August: 

The Suicide Squad: Set to release on the August 6, the sequel to the popular anti-hero movie Sucide Squad and will follow the villains to South America as they set out on a new adventure. 

Respect: The film is based off of the popular singer Aretha Franklin and played by Jenifer Hudson, and will be out on August 13.

The Beatles: Get Back: The documentary film will cover the process of making The Beatles’ album, Let It Be in 1970. The documentary will be released August 27.

September:

Death On The Nile: The thriller will be based on the 1937 novel Death On The Nile. The cast must figure out who murdered a passenger along the S.S. Karnak before they kill another. 

October: 

The Addams Family 2: Releasing on October 8, the sequel to the previous animated version of The Addams Family will follow the weird family as they fight their reputation and social media. 

November: 

Elvis: The biographical drama film will be about Elivs Presley and will star Austin Butler as the iconic singer and actor. The movie will be released November 5. 

Mission Impossible 7: The movie will be added onto the Mission Impossible series and much like the others, will be an action spy film. Tom Cruise will continue to reprise his role as Ethan Hunt and will act alongside Ving Rhames who plays his close friend and member of his team. The action movie will be released on the 19. 

December: 

Untitled Spider-Man: Far From Home Sequel: Not much has been said about the film but it has been confirmed that Tom Holland will continue to play the beloved comic book superhero and the movie will be released December 17.
