Biden supporters take to the streets to celebrate the projected win.

Media outlets around America have projected the 46th President of the United States to be Joseph Biden. Although sitting President Donald Trump has yet to concede and will continue to carry out lawsuits over the next few months, celebrations have erupted throughout the world.

President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris accepted the win on November 7 with victory speeches followed by a firework show. The socially distanced drive-up event was located in Biden’s hometown of Wilmington, Delaware. The audience had tears in their eyes as they watched Biden and Harris accept the presidency.

Even though Raleigh did not celebrate in a big way, Sanderson Senior Allena Harris found her own way to express her excitement, “This past Saturday, after the projected win, I got together with my friends and we drove around blasting “Party in the U.S.A.” by Miley Cyrus. Because of COVID-19, I would not have been able to attend a large celebration anyways, but we found our own way to get excited.”

After media outlets projected Biden would win Pennsylvania and its 20 electoral votes, his Philadelphia voters were especially eager to celebrate. Although President-elect Joe Biden has made it clear he does not condone large group gatherings at this time, thousands of masked supporters took to the streets dancing, singing, and waving flags.

The United Kingdom also had a celebration of their own. After hearing of Joe Biden’s projected win, the cities of Edinburgh and London set off fireworks to congratulate both Biden and Harris. The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and other world leaders including the French President, Italian Prime Minister, Spanish President, and Irish Prime Minister voiced their congratulations on social media.

Celebrities were seen driving and walking among the excited marchers in Los Angeles.  Chrissy Teigen and John Legend drove alongside the people as they sat on the hood of their car blasting music.

Others like Ariana Grande, Ciara, Miley Cyrus, and Jennifer Aniston stayed home and expressed their excitement over social media.

Although it is still up in the air about who the next President will be, the projected win leaves Biden supporters hopeful.
