Sanderson’s volleyball team had a solid season.

The Lady Spartans are ending a fantastic volleyball season.

The season began in August with intense summer workouts. Unlike in past years, summer workouts were team-led because there was not yet a coach for the team. These summer workouts led to team bonding stronger than in other years. The team captains, Chloe Smith and Lily Wilkerson, who have played for the team all of high school, worked together to lead the volleyball team to victory even without a coach.

Chloe Smith, Senior, was one of the team captains this year. She has been playing for the varsity team all throughout high school beginning her freshman year. Playing in every game this year, Chloe stands out as a vital member of the team.

Lily Wilkerson, Senior, was the other team captain for the varsity girls. Lily has been playing for the varsity team since her Sophomore year. Her versatility as an athlete is admired by her other team mates.

This year, there were more underclassmen playing on varsity than usual. Carolyn Brueggeman (9), Katie Whitsell (10), and Caroline Yates (10) are a few talented underclassmen. We are excited to see what these three girls will accomplish for the volleyball team in the coming years.

Overall, the volleyball season has been a success. The Lady Spartans made it to the first round of playoffs and faced Corinth Holders on Saturday, October 26. This match marked the end of the season for the Spartans but there is no doubt they had a good run and the team hopes for an even better season next year.
