Nicki Minaj announced via Twitter that she will be retiring from music to start a family.

Nicki Minaj announced through Twitter this past Thursday that she will be retiring from music to start a family. She has since deleted the abrupt tweet, so is she really retiring?

36 year old female rapper Nicki Minaj has been an icon in the music industry since the mid-2000s, but made her solo album debut with 2010’s Pink Friday. Since then, she has garnered 105 chart entries on the Billboard Hot 100. Minaj has made her mark on the music industry with hits like “Super Bass,” “Starships,” and “Anaconda.”

Since September 5, when she announced her retirement, fans have shared their concern over social media. She responded to one fans tweet apologizing for the way she handled the situation, and says she will address it in more detail over her Beats 1 show, “Queen Radio.”

Although Minaj is hinting towards the fact that she will be announcing her retirement on her radio show, she still has yet to officially confirm or deny her employment status.

Despite some controversial decisions, and the competition between her and other female rappers, Nicki Minaj spent nearly a decade proving that women deserve a place in the rap industry. Whether she decides to retire or not, her music will continue to live on with the help of her loyal fans, “The Barbz.”
