Marvel Studios has solidified its place as one of the biggest names in the movie industry, bringing some of the most beloved superheroes to the silver screen. Their next release, Avengers: Infinity War, is the first of two films to wrap up a storyline developed over 18 movies in the past decade.

The newest Avengers film will feature all of Marvel’s major superheroes in addition to some popular supporting characters, most notably Shuri and Okoye from Black Panther. Their main task is to prevent the powerful villain Thanos from getting all six infinity stones, five of which have been introduced in previous Marvel films. Not much else is known about the plot, but based on the footage that has been released, the film will split its time between New York City, Wakanda (a fictional African country), and intergalactic planets.

Avengers: Infinity War has been highly anticipated since its announcement, but some fans are wondering if their favorite characters will survive past the next two Avengers films. Marvel president Kevin Feige stated, “There will be two distinct periods. Everything before Avengers 4 and everything after. I know it will not be in ways people are suspecting.” It is not a stretch to think that veteran superheroes like Captain America and Iron Man may soon meet permanent ends.

Avengers: Infinity War and its 2019 sequel are the end of a particular era, but certainly not the end of Marvel Studios. The studio’s most recent release, Black Panther, was “the second-fastest grossing movie of all time,” according to Forbes, and was praised for its diverse cast. Fans can expect to see much more of Black Panther as well as Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Captain Marvel, the studio’s first female superhero to lead a film.

Advanced tickets are currently on sale for Avengers: Infinity War, which comes out April 27.
